Donley Chess Center Field Trip
The Donley Chess Center holds Quads the first Tuesday of each month in Logansport, Indiana. In March myself and Drew Hollinberger decided to venture North to Logansport and pay our friends there a vist. We had a great time and this month gathered some more members from our Indianapolis based, Circle City Chess Club and ventured North again.
This time we were five strong, Drew Hollinberger, Nate Rockhill, Sean Hollick, Tod Walker and Maxx Hollick. We were welcomed and had an enjoyable time once again as our host Gary Fox and the Donley Chess Center gave our small band some very good games! We are all looking forward to the first Tuesday in May and already plan on adding a few more to our travelling band! After the tournament we adjourned to Mr Happys Ice Cream and burger shop and talked chess and such, then headed back to Indy, a minor flat tire incident on the way back held us up for a moment but we managed to arrive safe and sound back home, another successful chess road trip!
I forgot my camera but managed to snap a couple pics with my trusty cell phone camera!

Aaron Dean Comeback Quick!
Tonight we saw a return from "retirement" by Aaron Dean in an exhibition match with Bill Corbin! This was Deans first tournament match since June of 2004, he showed he still has what it takes with a win in a quick 18 moves. Several more challengers await Dean, including Mike Gant and Bernard Parham to name a few, if you'd like a shot at Dean just let us know and we can set it up!
The Exibition match was followed by a Quick Tournament full of great games where Nate Criss remained undefeated and took 1st Place with a perfect score!

Tournament Results
The Stonegate Scholastic 06 was a great success with a showing of 111 players! We saw another clear win from Chris Li who not only had a perfect score but played up from the 6th grade to the High School section! Thanks to Aaron Dean of Learning Through Games and to all who came to support Chess in Indianapolis!
Afterwards in a special Dean Challenge, Aaron Dean faced Chris Li in a Blitz match. With seconds left on Deans clock and an illegal move on Dean's part, then Dean's flag actually falling...sending the crowd into a frenzy of hoots and hollers, Aaron Dean was able to hold his title from Li on a shaky controversial technicality that the spectators may not interfere when a players flag falls. In this observers opinion I think a REMATCH is in order to give the young Li a shot at Dean to make up for this game that was "snatched away" from him. Stay tuned for the upcoming Li -vs- Dean challenge details.

My Dad passed away on December 29th, 2005, to
honor him we are changing the Jan. Circle City
Tornado in name to the 1st George P. Wood Memorial.
My Dad was an incredible man. He was a Pilot during
WWII and flew with the Flying Tigers under Chennault.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion,
Optimist Club and Cross and Crown Lutheran Church.
He will be greatly missed.
